This is a positive Quiet Riot comment! Want to say how amazingly good the Oyster card is. It really is. No queueing at ticket desks ever. Autotop up means it's scarily easy to spend money but all in all it's a great service and something most cities in the world have nothing remotely as good as. about 1 month ago via web

I would like to propose that Transport for London draft an official letter countersigned by Mayor Boris Johnson and Commissioner Peter Hendy as well as the MD of London Underground apologising when people are late due to the tube, this can be redeemed from London Underground staff or people could nominate a work e-mail address for this to be forwarded to. I know employers are aware of the parlous state of the Tube but diligent punctual Londoners subject to the unreasonable vagaries of our metro system should not have to apologise when they are essentially blameless; that is the job for corporate communications. And I also want an apology when I hear the words 'there is a good service on all London Underground lines' when I have been waiting over 10 minutes for a Circle Line! This is an insult which one of these days will provoke a not-so-quiet-riot... In Tokyo or Moscow 'good service' means a train every 2 or 3 minutes. 3 months ago via web

Lots in the Sunday Times about this, with an emphasis on the Public Sector being paid 7% more than the Private sector on average. But this is what really struck home (although the measure of 'productivity' in the public sector is presumably pretty lame):

"public sector productivity fell by 3.4% in the 10 years from 1997 — compared with a rise of 28% in the private sector over the same period"

If this government - or the next - had any real guts it would follow the lead of the Irish and slash pay across the board (to start with)

I have to say I quite like my Oyster card & when I am outside of London I feel a bit naked without it. I got on a bus in Bristol only to remember that I had to hand over actual money to go anywhere followed by thinking do I even have any change?! I wish that the oyster card service was national so when I book my rail tickets online they could be added to my oyster card rather than posted to me or me having to queue for the fast ticket machines. I hope some of the problems with oyster will be solved with the announcement that it will now cover all the London rail services 9 months ago via web

Makes you wonder what was said to convince the jury that this unfortunate person was guilty. I think I would call the cops and ask them to collect this sort of item rather than turn up with a firearm and ammo at the nick. We can hope the sentence will reflect the true circumstances. 9 months ago via web

There is some truth in how self-referential and sel-congratulatory a lot of these shows are:

I use my scooter or bike for occasional trips to London and, when I park, I discover I am expected to pay. To make payment I have to use my phone, at my expense whilst listening to a bunch of options. Trying to block out the noise from passing traffic whilst on the phone is just another aggravation and if I get it wrong I have to repeat the process. What a waste of time and money! Pity the guys who have to do this every day. 9 months ago via web
