'Sorry, you were out'...no I wasn't, you just didn't bother to knock. Again. Is it worth phoning the number on the card, the phone that nobody ever answers? Is it worth arranging a redelivery that never happens? Should I visit the Royal Mail Delivery Office for them to tell me they have no parcel there? Should I just tell Amazon to resend my items when they inevitably receive them back from Royal Mail undelivered? Why,oh why, do I shop online?! 7 months ago via web

Well until today that is when it all fell apart again after two months of slow, but at least accurate, deliveries. I'm going to see whether, in future, the Royal Mail will pick up any items they mis-deliver to me rather than expect me to deliver them on their behalf. 8 months ago via web

The Royal Mail might be going through a bit of a bad patch... but overall, is it really that bad? Mail is delivered twice a day AND on Saturdays...and in general you post something and it reaches your destination.

In South Africa, we weren't so lucky. Mail arrives once a day, 5 days a week. And every time I sent or received a parcel for the last year it either never arrived or when it did (very very late) it had been opened and something stolen out of it. My gran even had a pair of socks stolen sent to her by her sister. Seriously.

I'm not saying that the Post Office in SA is entirely useless, I could just have really bad luck. My point is that the UK has a service that works - most of the time. Surely postal workers are entitled to good working conditions and have a right to strike to ensure that they get them?

The Royal Mail is generally very effective and if it takes a strike to maintain that effectiveness, then maybe we should grin and bear it. At least it is only temporary. 8 months ago via web

Twice a day? Not around where I live! 8 months ago via web

I read that the Royal Mail made a special effort to reduce deliveries to once a day at most, specifically to kill the twice a day post. I've had plenty go missing, but it does generally work...although, I quite frankly don't know why we don't get post on a Sunday too. 8 months ago via web

It's no wonder their volumes are falling when it's such a nightmare to post anything. Why they can't install a few electronic machines for simple postage enquiries I cannot think 8 months ago via web

If it's a regular problem, call and complain. It worked for me after two calls no more problems. 8 months ago via web

Thanks for the tip! We actually got an addressed envelope the other day - and inside was a flyer for a pub. What a waste of paper! 8 months ago via web

Royal Mail bring in unusually complicated charging structure and then refuse to deliver the goods even if the postage is only a few pence out unless you pay a fine of £1 each time 8 months ago via web

The queues at the Post Office are like something out of Life on Mars. Would this be the case if it wasn't a guaranteed state monopoly? 8 months ago via web

Postman regularly used to leave parcels on my doorstep, even in the rain rather than wait for me to come to the door. When I asked him, he was extremely rude and said that he did not have time to wait. 8 months ago via web

Although there are some "Postman Pat" types out there still. My parents are fortunate enough to have one. However, I find the idea of actually sending mail - find paper or card, pen or pencil, envelope, write out address, buy stamp, walk to postbox - more or less a daunting prospect these days! 8 months ago via web
