Barclays has got to be the worse, I am a finance manager and deal with many banks. The ques are not too bad, there is usually around 2-3 staff about 3 people waiting, dont know if its just me but its always the people in front of me seem to want to give their life story, whilst asking so many questions about their account taking up lots of valuable time. Some other banks I deal with have some great machines that can answer most of these queries and transfer money. 6 months ago via web
Days to clear a cheque between one account to another in the same bank?
OK, so they're so unfashionable they are being withdrawn by 2018. But still, cheques are part and parcel of a lot of banking.
Today, I have a cheque drawn on one account held by Barclays, and my account held with Barclays. They need a minimum of three days to transfer (this comes with a fee) or "obviously, the normal five days".
Normal.
Five days.
How do they do it? Are there donkeys moving the relevant data within the same organisation from place to place?
It's simply a scam. They know the money is there, and they make money on holding it up in their system.
Another example of banks being run for their own convenience - and profit - and not ours.

I think a new policy should be in place for telephone banking...the
call should either be free or free after the first three minutes.

Why do we have to have those annoying, large security gadgets? You know the ones - the thing you put your card in that gives you an access code to log in online. The other banks haven't done this and it's so incredibly inconvenient to have to carry it in order to access your bank account. It's so inconvenient that it removes much of the benefit of online banking. I imagine that it's been put in place to cover Barclay's a*** but I can be trusted not to write down my password and to make it secure enough.
And in any case, you can log in without it and still see your account details (albeit you can move any money). This means that with details that are stored in most browsers you can look at someone's account anyway. So in some ways it's less secure. #

The pin readers are a pain I agree, but are a massive lift to internet security. For anyone in the same position as me, the Barclays and Natwest pin readers are made by the same firm with the same alogorithm, so you can use them interchangeably. I keep one at work and one at home.
The best online security from a bank that I have seen to date that doesn't require a PIN reader or token chip is ING Direct. They make you use your mouse rather than a keyboard, and always move the keypad around each time you visit. 8 months ago via web
I have been trying to sign up for online banking as a personal and a business customer, well, pretty much since it was invented. The reality is a car crash of online and offline systems (but they still charge you if they can). I've pretty much lost the will to live on this subject, so I can't face picking up the phone and going through zillions of menus. 9 months ago via web
I bank with Natwest and Barclays, both as a consumer and as a business. Natwest handles personal and business accounts online like a dream - I can see both in the same view, and my business partner can see the business accounts on his personal login too.
The Natwest system is way better than Barclays - importantly for me, you can download up to a years worth of transactions to Excel. And they have restrospectively uploaded all 7 years of account statement which you can view sheet by sheet, which is awesome. 8 months ago via web
