Everyone has a Quiet Riot. Is it long queues? Or rude staff? Or a bank?
Quiet Riots is a service that allows individuals to join together in groups to make change happen for the issues they share. Users find their Quiet Riot, share their experience, and work together to get something done. We're a new site, so the paint's still wet and there's lots more to do, let us know what we could be doing better at feedback@quietriots.com
A Quiet Riot is an issue that needs to be changed. It could be climate change or it could be the queues at your local bank. We want to make it easy to find other people with the same Quiet Riot, too much energy is lost because people are unable to discover and work with others who share their views. You may be interested in a broad Quiet Riot that's hard to associate with a single organisation. However, we've found that most people dive straight into a Quiet Riot associated with an organisation. Whatever you are looking for, the search boxes at the top of every page should help you find it easily. If we haven't created your Quiet Riot yet, we'll catch up and let you know when we do.
It feels great to get it off your chest, especially when others in the group are able to understand what you are going through. It's not just venting though, you'll find “Top Tips” from the community on how to quickly improve your situation, and be able to read the stories of others that have had similar experiences to yours. You can also share ways to get attention for your Quiet Riot and proposals for long term change.
We want to make change happen. Groups of passionate people are hard to ignore and we're hoping to help organisations work with groups on Quiet Riots to solve their issue. Change can be solving the problems of an individual or changing the policies of a massive business. Quiet Riots enables a group of like minded people to work together to get something done. We publish an open “Letter to the organisation” about every organisation that is active on Quiet Riots, it's designed to clearly summarise the concerns and actions of the group and provide powerful evidence for those trying to make change from within an organisation.
The team at Quiet Riots have worked in large organisations, and we don't believe that organisations want to be inefficient, unhelpful or annoying. Most of the time, when we meet an organisation we find that their leaders believe they are using their resources as best they can.
So why do so so many organisations fill us with rage? Why can everyone you meet agree that there's a problem but the organisation show no sign of changing? We think it's because the problems faced by ordinary people are either:
Even the best of organisations are filled with myths that some things are impossible or too expensive to fix, and the traditional methods of individuals complaining and suggesting alternatives are not powerful enough to overcome the internal friction of these organisations.
There is a solution to overcoming the resistance of organisations. People suffering from the same issue find each other; form a group that speaks more loudly and powerfully than they ever could alone; they use their shared voice to get the attention of the decision makers; and propose solutions that truly resolve their problem.
Unfortunately this process has historically been expensive and unreliable for the individuals involved. How do you find people with your exact problem? How do you contribute and efficiently to that group without it taking over your life? How do you know when you've gained the attention of the organisation? It can be easy to feel like the little guy against the massive opponent. We meet lots of people that say that it doesn't feel like they can achieve anything alone. We built Quiet Riots to show people that they're not alone and to enable groups to band together and push organisations to change. The open letter to the organisation is designed to collect together the combined activity of a Quiet Riot and present it as a shared voice to the decision makers within organisations. The Quiet Riots platform provides tools which make it easy to rank both organisations and Quiet Riots.
Organisations can also join Quiet Riots and present their side of the debate, we'd love this to happen and hope to make Quiet Riots a valuable resource for organisations seeking to better understand and engage with their customers. We should also let you know that above a certain level of activity organisations will pay to be members. It's a way to pay our bills and we also believe it's a much better use of their budgets than slicing up trees to put leaflets through millions of letterboxes.
If you are an organisation and would like an official presence on Quiet Riots please email us at organisations@quietriots.com
When using Quiet Riots please feel free to say what you think and what you feel. However, we've put some groundrules in place to ensure that Quiet Riots remains a productive place for change and is welcoming environment for all users:
